100 Contemporary Houses

Beskrivelse

A captivating collection showcasing 100 of the most innovative private homes from around the globe, designed over the last twenty years. This book highlights the unique challenges architects face when creating intimate living spaces tailored to individual needs.

Exploring the art of designing personal residences that blend functionality with emotional connection.

Designing private homes presents a distinct set of challenges and subtleties for architects. Unlike large-scale public projects or complex industrial sites, these residences focus on the specific tastes, demands, and visions of their owners. The real challenge lies in transforming the emotional meaning and practical needs of “home” into a tangible, built environment.

This book brings together 100 of the world’s most fascinating and groundbreaking houses crafted in the past two decades. It features works by both emerging talents and renowned architects such as John Pawson, Richard Meier, Shigeru Ban, Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Daniel Libeskind, Álvaro Siza, and Peter Zumthor.

These homes not only accommodate everyday activities like eating, sleeping, and sheltering but also create spaces for personal experiences and relationships. This collection captures architecture at its most fundamental and intimate level.
