Designing private homes presents a distinct set of challenges for architects. While these projects may be smaller in scale than public buildings and less technically complex than industrial sites, they demand a deep understanding of the owners’ personal tastes, needs, and visions. The real challenge lies in transforming the emotional and practical concept of “home” into a tangible, livable structure.

This volume brings together 100 of the most fascinating and groundbreaking houses from the last two decades, created by a mix of emerging talents and renowned architects such as John Pawson, Shigeru Ban, Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Daniel Libeskind, Alvaro Siza, and Peter Zumthor.

These homes accommodate everyday activities like eating, sleeping, and sheltering, while also providing spaces for personal experiences and relationships. It’s architecture at its most fundamental and intimate.

As noted by Grand Designs, this collection offers an inspiring journey through the world’s finest new houses, ranging from rustic timber cabins to sleek glass pavilions, sure to spark creativity and admiration.
