Homes for Our Time, Volume 2, highlights the transformation in architecture driven by pressing global issues. It asks important questions about the role of homes in an endangered world and how they can push the boundaries of innovation.

In Sri Lanka, Palinda Kannangara designed the Frame Holiday Structure with a modest budget of $40,000. Constructed from steel scaffolding, exposed brick, and wooden floors, this home can be easily taken apart and relocated, perfectly suited for its floodplain setting.

Brazil’s Fortunata House by Luciano Lerner Basso embraces its natural surroundings by building around an endangered tree and elevating the structure on stilts to protect the forest floor.

Near Seattle, Miller Hull’s Loom House has earned the title of “the world’s most environmentally ambitious home renovation” thanks to its use of recycled materials and energy-efficient design.

Moving beyond the traditional Western, male-dominated architectural narrative, this volume features over 60 homes from countries like Vietnam, South Africa, India, and China. These projects are created by a diverse group of men, women, and collectives, reflecting a future with no single dominant style.

With stunning photography from leading architectural photographers, detailed descriptions, and drawings from design studios, Philip Jodidio presents a rich tapestry of sustainable and varied architecture. The featured homes range from simple to luxurious, reminding us that a beautiful house is always a dream-and this book invites you to dream along.
