The Silmarillion

Beskrivelse

Dive deeper into the rich history of Middle-earth with The Silmarillion, a captivating collection of myths and legends that explore the ancient past of Tolkien’s world. This book reveals the epic tales that precede the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

An epic journey through the origins and early ages of Middle-earth.

The Silmarillion takes readers back to the Elder Days, during the First Age, when the mighty High Elves battled Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, for the Silmarils-jewels filled with the pure light of Valinor. This collection not only uncovers the ancient drama referenced by characters like Elrond and Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, but also includes several shorter works that expand the lore.

Among these are:

• The Ainulindale, a creation myth that explains how the world came to be.
• The Valaquenta, which describes the nature and powers of the gods in Tolkien’s universe.
• The Akallabeth, recounting the tragic fall of the island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age.
• Of the Rings of Power, which details the major events at the close of the Third Age, as told in The Lord of the Rings.

This edition features a revised and corrected text, along with an insightful introduction containing a letter Tolkien wrote in 1951. In it, he explains how he envisioned the early Ages of Middle-earth, providing a deeper understanding of his legendary world.
